Carnival Crown Princess Assists in Rescue and Medical Evacuation at Sea
LIGHTNING RELEASES: Dallas, TX (6/11/2014)–Too often, social media focuses on negative reports and incidents regarding the cruise industry ignoring positive news and heroic accomplishments.
June 6, 2014 while cruising off the Canadian coast, the Carnival Crown Princess received a medical assistance Mayday call from a nearby fishing boat. The Crown Princess responded by diverting and transporting a doctor and nurse to the tug “Western Titan” where the fisherman had been transferred. The Carnival team attended the patient until the arrival of a Search and Rescue plane with additional medical personnel. Rescue medical personnel parachuted to the freezing water and were picked up by the ship’s Fast Rescue Craft. A medevac helicopter was dispatched and the rescue team, Crown Princess nurse and patient were winched up to the helicopter and the patient airlifted to a local hospital.
The Crown Princess medical team returned to the ship amid admiration and applause from the ship’s passengers, the dramatic rescue and their heroic deeds adding to a memorable cruise.
