The Houston Chronicle went digital on October 8, 1995 with the launch of Chron.com on the web and Houston Chronicle Interactive on Prodigy, which gave users access to bulletin boards and chat rooms. About a year later, the company focused all efforts on Chron.com. Over the subsequent 19 years, the Houston Chronicle has continued to expand its multi-platform digital reach with the latest trends in technology and consumer on-demand services, including web, mobile, tablet, and electronic replica versions as well as social media channels. Chron.com holds the number one position in the Houston market among local news providers, with its closest competitor with less than half the market share of Chron.com.
The Chron.com mobile site underwent a redesign a year ago improving the consumer interface with faster access to Houston’s breaking news in diverse formats, including enhanced video, more photos and quicker story reads. As a result, Chron Mobile traffic is up 110% this year, reinforcing its #1 position in the market now and in the future.
