LIGHTNING RELEASES 04/30/14 –Sonar targets in 18,000 feet of water near Howland Island are focus of the expedition. Expedition Amelia is a project of Howland Landing Ltd.
Expedition Amelia’s sole objective is locating the Earhart plane and writing the final chapters of the Earhart mystery. Howland Landing Ltd. performed the first ever deep-water sonar search for Amelia Earhart’s Lockheed Electra. Now after careful analysis by Williamson & Associates sonar experts, several targets have been identified to be the right size of the Electra and are located within the high probability search area on a flat abyssal plain 3 miles deep. The Expedition will have deep-water sonars aboard that will provide high-resolution images of the targets.
Dana Timmer, The Expedition leader has been working with researchers and deep sea experts from around the world for the past 15 years to solve one of the great enduring mysteries, What happened to Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan?

Dr. Tom Crouch: , Senior Curator of the National Air and Space Museum, has said, “The Earhart/Noonan Electra is 18,000 ft. down in the vicinity of Howland Island and may even yield a range of artifacts that could rival the finds of the Titanic”.
Amelia Earhart’s own words shortly before departing Lae, New Guinea for Howland Island, “Not much more than a month ago, I was on the other shore of the Pacific, looking westward. This evening, I looked eastward over the Pacific. In those fast-moving days, which have intervened, the whole width of the world has passed behind us, except this broad ocean. I shall be glad when we have the hazards of its navigation behind us.”
