Bowling Green KY (February 19, 2016): Joseph Hooper announced today that he and Encore Energy are sponsoring the “Save Our Kids Coalition” 2016 Snowman Splash (SOK). The Splash will occur February 20, 2016 at KOA 1960 Three Springs Road. Last year, 15 brave souls took this arctic plunge, and all survived.
SOK is an antidrug and alcohol program designed to educate the children of Bowling Green and Warren County as to the grave danger of drugs and alcohol.
In 2008, the SOK launched a comprehensive underage drinking initiative and has achieved the following for our children of Bowling Green and Warren County:
- Our 6th graders reportedly using alcohol was cut by 80% while the use of alcohol by the 8th graders was slashed by more than 60%.
- From 2010 to 2015, the percentage of high school juniors reported to use prescription drugs in the past year dropped by over 68% with prescription drug use for Seniors falling by more than 44%.
- The SOK Youth initiative won the 2009 National Pride Prevention Group of the Year Award. In 2009, SOK was also awarded the inaugural National Dose of Prevention Award and was a finalist for the National Prevention Coalition of the Year in 2010.
“This event and SOK are critical for the protection of our children”, said Eric Gregory, the Executive Director of SOK. “Our federal funding is ending September 29th, which makes the contributions from local businesses and individuals even more important to our cause. SOK is currently working with local officials to address the underage drinking epidemic in our community”, added Mr. Gregory.
In addition to contributing financially, Joseph Hooper is making plans to “leap” into near freezing water to raise both awareness and much needed money for SOK. “Not only is this very important event growing every year, but the water seems to be getting colder as well”, said Joseph Hooper, who also serves as the Executive Vice President and Director of Encore Energy, and is one of the original Founders of the Snowman Splash.
“It is great to be part of something that protects our children, and Encore plans to provide support in the future, so long as Mr. Hooper and others are willing to jump into freezing water”, said Steve Stengell, the President CEO of Encore Energy, Inc.
